
Ticos are relatively fit. Their life expectancy is as high as in the US (despite a much lower per capita income). The incidence of obesity and even being overweight appears to be much lower than in the US.

On our weekend outings in the central valley, we’ve seen lots of cyclists wearing full spandex and riding road bikes (on pretty tough conditions).

In San José, it is common to see people jogging even on the main boulevards, as shown here. (But the male:female ratio in both activities is probably 10:1.)
