We hiked this afternoon on the first part of a “trail” (= rough dirt road + no signs) up toward Cerro Amigos (summit at 1842 m, along — we think — the “Continental” Divide). We didn’t make it to the summit -- that will have to wait for another day. A repeated impression of Costa Rica is ruggedness. This trail had some really steep pitches and there were ruts a half-meter deep in places. As we came down, a jogger passed us. He was in his 40s (we guessed) and had a small potbelly! He was accompanied by a few dogs, who had run with him to the top. And then a guy came up the hill on an ATV.
