The cathedral in Sevilla was constructed between 1400 and 1520. It is the largest Gothic church in the world and the third largest church in Europe.
The cathedral dominates the cityscape. Literally. It is illegal to build something in Sevilla that is taller than the cathedral's bell tower.
Our apartment is just one block north of the cathedral. We hear the bells ring through the day. Encountering the cathedral is part of our normal life here. We walk past it daily.
Today there are more pictures than words. Three themes are emphasized. (1) The feeling of the cathedral's majesty in its neighborhood. (2) The extraordinary representations of important religious figures that adorn the outside walls. (3) The intricate and ornate Gothic design and workmanship.
You should go to a service, just for the experience.
And I'm impressed by the drama in these photos, even though, because the cathedral is your neighbor, and something you pass every day, it might have just blended into your background. I'm finding it hard in Hamburg to notice the visual details in my immediate neighborhood.
I started this blog during the first half of 2009, when, along with my wife, Ingrid, and youngest daughter, Daniela, I spent considerable time in Costa Rica and Spain. Here I recorded a summary of my impressions on most days during our travels. The observations are primarily made through the lens of my camera, augmented by a few paragraphs.
After returning to California in June 2009, I decided to continue the blog. Entries when I'm in California will be sporadic; I'll post more frequently when I travel. The goal will be to continue learning and sharing with the subject inspired by what I happened to find visually interesting.

Acknowledgment: Here is a big THANK YOU to my friend and colleague, Charlie, for his feedback and encouragement of my photography, especially in connection to my 2006 work in Denmark (not posted here) and my 2009 photos from Costa Rica.
