Museum voor Schone Kunsten

We spent three hours today visiting the fine arts museum in Ghent.  I was particularly struck by the excellent quality of light in many of the works.  I had previously seen similar features in Danish paintings.  I wonder if this aspect is common in northern European paintings because of the extraordinary qualities of sunlight and skylight in the north and because of the long winter periods when high quality natural light isn't a prominent feature.  Many of the paintings that I show here feature illumination of a special character.

The 7th one down of the gardener with his watering cans in a field of flowers looks fun to try and recreate.
